This is St. James Anglican Church in Long Reach. I am heading out on the "Camino el Santiago" which was originally the "pilgrimage" of St. James the Apostle. Long Reach is my ancestral home. Significance.
The scallop shell is a symbol for the Camino el Santiago as St. James was a fisherman. This is a picture of an altar cloth at St. James Anglican Church. Although I do not consider myself to be strongly religious, my mother was a great Anglican and I would sometimes attend St. James church with her. I had never noticed the scallop shell symbol until preparing for this journey.
Just to remind myself when I am away, here is my elder daughter, Emma, with some young man. I could not find a picture of Emma alone.
and my younger daughter, Julia:
and my husband and knitting intern, Tom:
and my dog, Nugget:
and my house in Fredericton:
and my cottage in Long Reach:
and my garden in Long Reach:
and part of my "Named Mittens" collection:
and one of my favorite food productions, Blackberry Applesauce:
And what does all that have to do with my Camino? I guess it is my background, identity, interests. And it was me trying how to figure out how to do a blog. I will get more caminoish tomorrow. Maybe.
Very Impressive, I must say!! Soon, you shall take the grasshopper from my hand....
ReplyDeleteVery well done, love the color of your house in Fred, it looks sooo different!

What a great beginning. You will have walkers wanting to come to Long Reach,
ReplyDeleteAnd there will be mittens with names from Paris won't there?

DeleteParisian Mittens!! I feel a whole new line coming on...Mitaines el Camino....
DeleteVery nice beginning. I have one of those applesauce maker items too. I love it! I will be following you along your journey. Although not with you in person, I will lend you as much moral support as possible!! Have a great time.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hayley!!
ReplyDeleteWish I was going with you. This time two years ago I was getting ready to head out on the cross Canada trip with Kathy. You blaze the trail and maybe someday I will follow.

Can't wait to keep reading this, Barb. I can only imagine this blog is going to keep me laughing. Best of luck to you, Cheryl, Lynn & Pat!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat way to start your blog. You two look so happy at your cottage. Your mittens are as beautiful as Mom said and nicely photographed too. I have never seen one of those applesauce makers so am quite envious of you & Hayley both. I am periodically uploading my bizarrely formatted video from Jeaneology for your helpful husband to convert. There is however no way I can convert the corrected page 8 to anything useful so when you check my (& Mom's) book there will be a problem. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Storme. Keep your eyes open for an applesaucer....greatest piece of technology going.
ReplyDeleteI have not been by your house since the outside was redone. It looks awesome!
