We left Roncesvalles in the dark at 6:45 am. I include this picture for my daughter Julia who works occasionally in a neighborhood in Toronto called Roncesvalles. Now, if I could just get her to read my blog!!!
We met this couple at the Pilgrim's Dinner on the first night. Mitch is originally from Fredericton and Mary Lou spent a good part of her life there. They are currently living in Toronto. Mitch's brother Mike is a teacher in Fredericton and also a swimming "buddy" of mine at the YMCA.
After a grueling trek from Roncesvalles to Zibiri in the scorching sun , up and down extreme hills, we arrived to find there were no beds in this town of 400 people. 550 Pilgrims had left Roncesvalles that morning so Zibiri was saturated! Fortunately, we did find a nice little outdoor bar which served "colada",a beer/lemon combo which is most refreshing!! Emma calls that "Shandy", I believe!
We ended up in a hotel 8 km out of town run by an"Aaron Hotchner" (Criminal Minds) look-alike. It was luxurious after the monastery the night before! And we had this great meal of Russian Salad and baked trout. Delicious! Not that I'm food-obsessed or anything!!
How many KM's have you walked so far? You are amazing....
ReplyDeleteWe have walked 92.4 kms so far.
ReplyDeleteI read your blog mom!
ReplyDeleteWhich daughter is speaking?
DeleteHi to Susan L from Paul & Theresa. Love the pics.
ReplyDeleteJust thinking how different this trip is than the one you were on at this time last year! Good memories though. Stay safe and don't lose any more socks.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend at Fredericton High School was a girl named Mary Lou Llambias. She was also my maid of honour for my first wedding. Wouldn't that be amazing if this is the same Mary Lou??
ReplyDeleteI'll check.
ReplyDeleteWell Barb, I'm reading your blog and I can appreciate your Roncesvalles post. (Hope Julia gets to see it too)
ReplyDeleteYay Roncy!! :))
