PHYSICAL CHALLENGES:
So far it has not been easy.
I'm writing a song about that. It goes like this:
Camino Blues
"My thighs are singing a duet
My knees are belting out the blues
My feet aren't blistered yet
But they sure are bruised, bruised, bruised
And ABUSED"
Generally, I start out okay in the morning but the last 2 hours and 4 or 5 kilometers are killers. It has a lot to do with the HOT sun, the bruised soles, and overall fatigue.
I call on Lamaze breathing to manage the ascents, and I rely on the trekking poles to handle the descents.
This is all going to get better!!
PERSONAL GROWTH:
1. Lamaze breathing has finally been perfected.
2. Practicing French daily.
3. Developing Spanish language skills and charades.
4. Struggling with the Finnish language.
5. Fluent in Australian.
6. Back on Coffee.
7. Not enough tea.
8. Working on red wine appreciation.
9. Limiting baguette intake.
10. Accounting Euros with a vengeance.

# 11 on your list: Songwriting skills are improving.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary. I don't have a tune. Can you help?
DeleteI'm sure you'll get your pilgrim legs soon. Great that you have no bisters! To helped with your brised soles, you might check at a Farmacia about inserts or liners for your boots. It might help.
ReplyDeleteTaking an extra, "zero km" day in Burgos would help, and give you time to see that wondrous city....Free of a backpack too!
Thanks, Kevin. My feet are a "little" better today!
ReplyDeleteTry to elevate your feet during lunch (if you aren't already).
ReplyDeleteThey have a thing called Voltaren Emulgen (it's actually here now too) which I massaged into the soles and it seemed to dull the pain somewhat.
Agreed about Burgos. We had to push through but it has a lot to offer.
Also, take heart: it's about to get better. You're going to start seeing training effects shortly.
Thanks, Charles. Feet improving.
